Stella had been somewhat thrilled this year for new years eve. she did a lot of charity work, that’s how she kept herself busy most of the time. right after thanksgiving she had a charity group that she wasn’t a part of reached out to her and asked her to host and plan a new years eve party for them. she had been spending a significant part of her days since then planning and getting a place set up. of course it was for a charity event, so she couldn’t spend a great deal of money and it amazed the group that she had a lot of the items given to her. she had a few hundred new years eve party hats given to her, she found a lot of decorations at a nice store, but got a significant discount because of the vast amount she was buying from them. she spent the day before getting everything ready, she had nets put up with balloons filled with silver and gold confetti and spent hours tying silver and gold ribbons around them (with the help of a few others) there were gold tissue paper disks in the sheer nets to fall at mid-night, and hundreds and hundreds of silver starts hung along the walls of the ballroom. there were a few dozen mistletoe hung up to create a certain playful mood. the simple white candles were set out strategically on the long tables that would hold the appetizers, champagne, and party hats.
as much as she planned for the party, her outfit had taken her even longer, she wanted to be a bombshell. it was a black tie event, sure that was an excuse to dress fancy. but, this was mostly for phillip, of course, she wouldn’t dress so nicely for anyone else. she left the rest of the party details in the hands of the caterer and a few of the others that helped her get it all set up. of course that didn’t stop her phone from ringing on and off most of the day. she spent some time setting her nails done, she had her hair done later in the day into sexy loose curls down her back. she started her makeup a few hours, before the party started, she was hosting so she had to be there before others showed up. she applied a sexy smokey eye and a dark red lip making her lips look kissable. last, but not least, she slipped on her dress and buttoned it at the base of her neck before slipping on her shoes.
she prayed that phillip wouldn’t cancel, the last time hadn’t ended too horrible, but the middle was terrible. she didn’t want to be left alone on new years. as silly as she felt admitting it to herself, she wanted to be able to turn to phillip at midnight and feel somewhat normal, she wanted to get her midnight kiss. plus, she felt very proud of her accomplishments for this party and she wanted to lavish in it for a few hours. she gathered the end of her dress in one hand, only so she could safely descend the stairs without hurting herself. she could hear phillip moving around on the main floor. for once she didn’t feel like she was forcing the smile that came her to lips, she felt good. she felt like she looked good.
she hoped the dress wasn’t too much. it didn’t leave too much to the imagination; it showed just enough cleavage without it being inappropriate, and the sheer fabric that covered her shoulders and sides, dipped down below her hips and then continued on her legs. the sheer fabric emphasized her curves. she hit the landing and started to gather her clutch, putting her phone, keys, and her lipstick. she glanced around unsure of where phillip had gone to. ”Phillip? Are you ready?” she called quietly, suddenly feeling very nervous. she wasn’t exactly sure why; she could chalk it up to the nerves of an event that she had no charity ties to going off without a hitch… but maybe it was her being a little nervous about her husband’s reaction to her outfit. she wasn’t sure what he would think or if he would like it… maybe it was too much. she put in her earrings as she gave herself one last look in the mirror, doing a twirl for a quick check. she had called a car for them, knowing that there would be a bit of drinking tonight, she wasn’t about to make that mistake again, going to a party and having to get a ride unwillingly from someone. she glanced from the mirror seeing phillip, she couldn’t help but give him a dazzling smile. ”is it too much?” she asked running her hands nervously down the sheer fabric of the dress on her sides.

[attr="class","stella1"] [attr="class","stellabg"] [attr="class","rightpanels"] The seasons may cycle, The years may fade like dead flowers of blue,But I do not fear the way life changes,Cause every day means another lifetime spent with you. ----------------------------------------- he had lost track of how many times something, an event, a fight, or a family member, had taken pretense over him but once more, his wife had lost herself in another frivolous event that phillip had to clear his schedule to attend. his house had glitter trails from the front door to the kitchen table where dozens of silver stars were once laid upon the table for days, accumulating in quantity and causing phillip to force his tongue to bleed as he bit down upon it, trying to keep mute about the situation. if she was busy, he could continue pulling his old tricks and though that made the guilt run deeper with each kiss that he received that was not from his wife, phillip found himself in capable of changing that part of his life. he had cut his office hours, he had stopped drinking as much but not seeing melissa on the side proved to be a tie that he could not yet cut. sighing, phillip stared at the uneven tone of his skin in the bright bathroom mirror. his eyes were dark, evidence of what little sleep that he had gotten the last couple of nights, his eyes were bloodshot and he really did not look up to his usual standards. turning the faucet on, phillip splashed some water directly onto his face to try and soothe away the exhausted appearance but just found that the cold water turned his skin red and blotchy. dapping away the droplets, he stepped out of the bathroom and approached the closet where the suit that he was to wear was hanging off a hanger on his side of the closet. with a deeper sigh than before, he plucked it off the rack and walked back to his bed where he began to prepare himself. during this entire time, his wife had been primping herself and coming in and out of the room. he felt indecent when she had appeared in the bathroom as he had finished his shower and before phillip took the towel away, he checked to see that his wife was out of sight. he could not pin point why he felt so insecure but those that had seen his wife with his arm around her waist often questioned how this match was even created. they were both attractive but phillip could not deny that stella was a knock out compared to him, especially tonight.
he had shamelessly caught a glimpse of the dress that she was going to wear tonight. she had hung it up in the closet and then it kind of blended it with the rest of her clothes after that one glimpse but it was enough to be imbedded in his mind. he had seen sheer fabrics upon her slender form but this one, he felt was going to be something special and just for him. nerves began to bubble up as he finished the touches upon his ensemble, the bowtie being pulled tight around his neck. he needed a drink. exiting the bedroom, phillip was unsure of his wife’s whereabouts in the house but the two dogs were upstairs which meant that she was somewhere close to them. he gave them an affectionate look but did not reach down to pet them, not wanting to get dog hair on the black material of his suit. making his way down the stairs and into the parlour, the living room area, the drink cart already had a small glass filled with his favourite scotch but he had been nursing it for the past few hours. he finished it off, giving one last look in the hall mirror before he reached for his coat and his wife’s as well. time felt slow, the hall clock mocking him with the taunting tick of the second hand as he was alert for sounds of heels or the dogs’ nails upon the floor indicating that she was approaching. phillip was always annoyingly on time and this was no exception as he was completely ready to go with a flask, wallet, keys and shoes on. he decided on another quick drink as the anticipation of her descent was making him nervous all over again. he felt like a boy taking the most popular girl to the prom but just as he was about to pour out a little bit of liquid courage, her voice travelled. how did she make it down the stairs without him noticing? ”been ready for the past ten minutes..”, but she had to have already known that if she know phillip at all. he lifted his head and turned his body around to face her, having to stop his jaw from hitting the floor as he looked her over. the curls, the dark lips and of course, the dress—it was beyond what he had pictured. ”no…no it’s..perfect.”, he stumbled over his words and the bottle, nearing spilling it as he twisted the cap back on and left the unfilled glass on the cart. ”you look beautiful stella..”, he commented while putting his coat on and then offering hers, waiting for her to slip her arms in, ”nervous?’, he asked while sliding the coat upon her shoulders and stepping over to the door, pulling it open for her to step through first. there was an attempt not to roll her eyes at his words, but since no one was around to see it, she freely rolled her eyes at him. of course she knew it was ready. he was always freakishly on time to everything. it would have concerned her if he hadn’t been ready. she always thought she was punctual until she met phillip. she would have to remember to thank him one of these days for coming with her to these sort of things and she was grateful that tonight wasn’t one with the typical judging people. she knew there would be some, but maybe not as many. it was enough to see him stumble over his words and the glass, she couldn’t help but glance up at him through her lashes and laugh quietly. ”Should I cut you off early tonight?” she teased him softly. she knew him and she knew that somewhere on his person that he had the flask with him. she knew it was silly but getting a compliment from phillip was a high point of the evening, people would tell her it all night, but they didn’t matter. she couldn’t help but look at him, his suit. she gave him another smile. ”thank you..” she said quietly now, her voice lowering like she wasn’t sure how to take the compliment. ”you look very handsome..” she added brightly. she meant it, all of it, even a real smile from her was something that was slowly changing with her. of course her forced, practiced smiles would be all over the place tonight. but for now, with him, they were genuine.
she turned as he offered her coat up. she slipped her arms carefully through and pulled her curls up out of the collar of the coat. his question surprised her a little, it was just one word, but it worked all the same. she was nervous. nervous because of him. nervous because of this party. she hadn’t really told him the details, of course she was getting stuff ready here, but she hadn’t told him this wasn’t one of the normal, sneak out the back after an hour parties… not that she ever snuck out, but she’d always thought about it. more than she cared to admit. but tonight’s party was different. someone actually reached out to her, a charity organization she wasn’t a part of. she nodded her head slightly at his question. she glanced over at him, seeing he was clearly ready to leave. get this thing over with. she walked towards the door and glanced out, seeing the town car waiting for them. before she stepped through the door and leaned over and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. this wasn’t her normal, obligatory kisses, this one was real, and she had been careful enough to pick a lipstick that didn’t stain him easily. ”thank you… for coming…” she said quietly. she hated running solo to these things, especially when she knew there would be a great deal of drinking and she hated old grabby men. at least with phillip there she had a great excuse not to dance with them and for them to not get grabby with her.
she walked through the door and waited for him, before walking with him to the town car where the driver was ready to open the door. she gave him a polite smile as she slid into the backseat of the car. the backseat was bigger than a normal car and she was thankful for that. it was roomy and comfortable. she waited quietly as phillip got in and the driver closed the door behind him. it took a minute to get moving. her hand ran up and down the sheer fabric for a few minutes as she thought. she looked over at phillip and a small smirk. ”so.. what’s in the fun flask tonight?” she asked, her eyebrow raising slightly with the question. yes, she nicknamed it, because the only fun to be had at some of these parties was the content of his flask. before he could even answer that question, another one popped out. ”can I have a drink?” a sly smile came to her painted lips. she was going to need something a little stronger than champagne tonight. in her not so known opinion a pre-party drink or two.. or three sometimes was never a horrible idea. usually she only had one since she wasn’t exactly a strong drinker, after two drinks she was starting to feel pretty good. there was none of that tonight though, she had to be on her best behavior, at least when people were watching.

[attr="class","stella1"] [attr="class","stellabg"] [attr="class","rightpanels"] The seasons may cycle, The years may fade like dead flowers of blue,But I do not fear the way life changes,Cause every day means another lifetime spent with you. ----------------------------------------- he sipped the scotch slowly, trying to get the full effect that it could bring him plus he didn’t want to have to send a fortune at the bar that they were going to tonight. he waited downstairs, continually adjusting his tie that felt a little too tight and then too loose and then none of it mattered when she made herself known. she was a dazzling woman, always so beautiful in his eyes but sometimes, she just floored him with her all around beauty. his mouth was opened but he could barely get the words out to tell her how perfect she looked and how badly he wanted to tear the second skin away and pull her hair from the pinned up position. he wanted to but he didn’t, he stood there giving a small chuckle while placing the glass down on the cart, only a few sips of straight scotch gone, ”it’s not the alcohol effecting me right now…”, he commented with ease before stepping over to his wife. he did have a small flask hidden on him so that he could engage with the annoyingly boring people that would be occupying the same space as him. half of him wanted to just ask to make a quick appearance and then come home and celebrate the new year together, just the two of them but phillip knew how important this was to her and really, he had a lot to make up to her. he wondered if someone was going to be kissing melissa tonight and apart of him was pleased that it was not himself. he save a curt smile that barely touched his eyes, ”thank you.”, he smiled down at her before offering her the coat that he pulled off the hook. he smiled lightly as she was speechless to his question and he nodded in understanding. he knew that she was nervous, he was as well but not for the same reasons. things were beginning to change between them and he could feel it and it scared phillip. he was surprised by the kiss but took it with grace as he , ”wouldn’t miss it..”, shutting the door behind them and walking with her over to the car.
he let her slide in first before following after and passed the driver a small tip in appreciation. yet another door shut behind them and phillip slid into in order to be closer to his wife. he watched her hands running over the fabric of her dress and he quickly reached for it, bringing the back of her hand to his lips, ”relax..”, leaving their hands locked until she spoke about the flask that he had hidden away. ”the fun flask has scotch..”, as it was the strongest drink that he could think of. giving a smile, he nodded and unlinked their fingers and reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled the flask out for both of them to enjoy. ”don’t drink too much or i’ll have to cut you off..”, he chuckled as he handed the flask over to her but not before putting a quick kiss to her cheek. he let the flask go into her possession and he looked out the window as the city passed by. the entire street was lit up so magically and it made him smile brightly. tonight was going to be a good night, he could feel it and it would all be because of the woman beside him. giving a glance over to her as the car began to slow down, he reached for her hand once more, ”ready?”, he asked with a squeeze to her hand. the car door was opened for them and he slid out first, pulling stella along gently as he helped her out of the car and then looked to the venue from over his shoulder. the place looked impressive but he knew that his wife’s decoration skills would be what put this place over the top. leading her up the stairs, he put an arm around her waist as cameras flashed around them and he knew that he had to keep up appearances in case anyone from their world saw these photos. he kept her close, pulling her into the curve of his side and led her into the establishment but even then, phillip did not let her go as they made their way into the room and his smile grew, ”spectacular stella, absolutely beautiful…”, but this time, his head was turned and he was looking directly at her.. stella stopped herself from gaping at him, it wasn’t like he never gave her compliments, but there was no one around to hear him, she wasn’t sure of the point. except maybe that he meant it. when she realized that, a rosy color rose to her cheeks. she knew things were changing, but she was afraid of that, after several conversations with her brother, who was also in an arranged marriage and currently going through a divorce. she was terrified about how things were going to change. she had a degree sure, but she had only had one real job in her life. she didn’t know if she could handle getting a divorce and her brother was putting horrible ideas in her mind.
in the car, it was closed in the barrier between them and the driver was blacked out and she was not too thrilled with the enclosed space. her hands ran nervously over the fabric of her dress and she was surprised when she felt his warm hand on her’s. she looked at him as he brought her hand to his lips. she gave him a tight smile, though she did relax somewhat, with their fingers linked together. she couldn’t help but grin softly when he called it the fun flask as well. she laughed quietly, ”I’ve come to appreciate the fun flask.” she said with a small grin. her lips pouted slightly when he let go of her hand, but she knew he needed it to get the flask. she teasingly stuck her tongue out at him at his words. she took the flask carefully, her fingers brushing his. she was surprised by his kiss, but she tried not to let it show. she carefully twisted the top off the flask and took a quick drink, she took his warning though, she was certain they both knew she was a lightweight and she could never drink much before she was tipsy. it would be horrible if she showed up tipsy. she put the lid back on when she felt the car slow down.
she met his glance, only after he took her hand. she couldn’t help but shake her head softly, sending her sleek curls to dishevel a little. ”Is it too late to leave?” she asked, her voice somewhat teasing, but in the back of her mind she was almost willing to leave right now. she gave him a nervous smile and squeezed his hand back lightly. she held his hand as they scooted out, she got out of the car slowly, carefully and smoothed out her dress once she stood up fully. she was very thankful when he started to lead the way. she suddenly felt too nervous for this. it was stupid, she had been to hundreds of these parties. this should be nothing to her. but, she was suddenly thankful when they made it up the stairs and he put his arm around her. she was somewhat surprised by the cameras, but really, what else would it be.
this was where they faked it. they had to look perfect. to make sure they didn’t tarnish anyone’s name. so people did suspect anything. so the company would be successful, even to this day she wasn’t sure how their marriage was going to do that, if the company was going to thrive, it wasn’t going to be because of a paper that signified their marriage. it would be the people that ran and worked for the company. she didn’t mind that she was so close to him and of course, she knew she couldn’t let the appearance down. so, she smiled for the cameras, like usual. it did surprise her a little when they made it into the establishment, he didn’t let her go. she looked around, impressed with how it all turned out. she would have to thank all of the people that helped her pull this together. she got it all organized and planned, but they helped put it all in the place with her direction. she nodded her head softly in agreement, thinking he meant the decorations. she looked up at him through her lashes, she was a little surprised to see him looking back at her. ”it does look pretty great huh?” she asked him, her smile turned bright, it even reached her eyes. maybe parties were stupid to other people, hell sometimes she didn’t even like them, but this was something she could be happy about. she did this, not for one of her charities but for someone else. she glanced around before looking up at him again, suddenly realizing she had the fun flask still in her hand with her clutch. ”you should take this back...it may be in dangerous hand with me ” she said with a small grin. reaching inside his jacket to put the flask back in the pocket he had pulled it out of, purposely letting her hand trail on his chest for a brief moment before she pulled her hand out of his jacket.

[attr="class","stella1"] [attr="class","stellabg"] [attr="class","rightpanels"] The seasons may cycle, The years may fade like dead flowers of blue,But I do not fear the way life changes,Cause every day means another lifetime spent with you. ----------------------------------------- phillip was stuck in the car with his wife, in a close proximity to her. they were close enough that their body heat mixed in the leather and the atmosphere surrounding them. he wanted to pull at his bowtie but the effort to do it all back up again would not be worth the moment of uncomfortableness that he felt. it would pass in due time, he just needed a sip from the flask. the top was unscrewed in an instant and the small nozzle was put to his lips, the liquid sliding down his throat as the car jerked forward and pushed them closer to her event. he called it her event in his mind because she had been the mastermind, the designer, behind the entire thing and really, stella deserved all the credit for it. with a little liquid courage coursing through his system, he reached over and took her hand once more, lifting it from her lap and to his scotch laced lips. he passed the flask over to her when she requested it, having pocketed it after his large gulp and phillip needed his hand for it. reaching into the inside pocket of his jacket, he quickly revealed the silver flask once more and handed it over to his wife, allowing her to bask in power that alcohol had. he was about to open his mouth and offer as many words of encouragement as he could toward his nervous wife but the car had already started to come to a stop and phillip looked over to her, grinning at her sudden response. giving her words a response but just quickly shaking his head, he reached for her hand for the third time that night and gave it a squeeze, feeling a reciprocated action that brought a genuine smile to his lips. he was out of the car first, hit by the crisp air of a california winter before he turned around to offer assistance to his wife. this was ususally a playbook kind of action, taught to young men of the rich world from when they were young but for phillip, it was just instilled in his genes to be courteous and helpful. they made it up the stairs with just some flashing lights going off and he kept her tucked into his side every single step of the way.
he forgot that he was an actor, maybe because it was so natural to play house when people were watching or maybe, for the first time, it actually felt right to have her there. he had never brought melissa to an event, they rarely left the bedroom. their relationship was intimate in the physical sense and though he often showered her with gifts, it was still nothing but a physical need for him. this, holding his wife to his side, was something different. he did have a reputation to uphold but this time around, keeping stella close to him did not feel like a chore or an obligation to his family. it was a responsibility that he had as a husband, a true husband and not someone that was forced into this without wanting it. he wanted it. he knew that now and he had known for some time but this had proved to be the ultimate test for him. giving her a side glance, he checked signs of her own discomfort or an aversion to his touch but the smile that she was wearing looked real to him right now. she looked radiant with a genuine, pleased expression on her face. nodding, he looked around the room and then back to her, ”it looks worth having all that glitter on our dining room table.”, as the stars, which he could see were hanging from the ceiling, shed a good amount of sparkles in their house. he chuckled as she noticed the fun flask and nodded toward her, ”no need to worry about that, i’m not leaving your side..”. he was about to take the flask from her hand when she reached into the jacket pocket and placed it back herself, her hand guiding itself down his chest. he felt a small jerk of the breath before he cleared his throat when she removed her hand, ”though you pose a bit of a danger to me…”, he mumbled before looking around, spotting many people that he could talk to but really had no desire to. turning his attention back to his wife, he leaned in close and whispered in her ear, ”so what shall we do first?”, speaking over the music which was far more lively for an event like this. stella listened to him with, glitter was not worth it. she knew it was now a permanent feature of their home. that stuff never went away, it was much like the herpes of the craft world. her nose wrinkled as she shook her head. ”naw..” she said quietly, drawing out the word. ”never again, if you ever see me with glitter in our home, just kick me out..” she said with a smirk. she couldn’t help herself to glance up at him, his words seemed to puzzle her for a moment, he wasn’t going to leave her side? she could only hope he would keep that promise to her. she didn’t want people to come up and ambush her. if he was there, at least he would be like a human shield. she heard him mumble something, but she couldn’t quite catch what he said. maybe she felt him catch is breath? she wasn’t sure. she was about to ask him what he had said, glancing up at him again, but she followed his gaze. he was looking at other people, she looked at them too. it was her turn to be surprised, she was still staring at the people when she felt his warm breath on her ear, his smooth voice asking her a question. it took her a moment to gather her thoughts that seemed to scatter with his proximity. what were they doing to each other? this all just seemed like a cruel game of cat and mouse, they were just taking turns playing the cat and mouse and vice versa. the music had been her choice, but she wouldn’t admit to that. she hated the humdrum instrumental music. this one was instrumental still, but she had told them they needed to keep up the tempo, they needed to make it lively, people wanted that on new years eve. she had a singer, who had a bluesy tone, stella thought she was amazing and it gave a unique spin to the music. she approved. she was temporarily distracted, but she tried to recall his question. what did they do first? she had no idea. she wasn’t used to actually doing anything at these things. she just stood around, maybe danced a song or two, or talked to people who were just boring. she knew she didn’t live a thrilling life, but damn some of these people were so monotone and dull she would willingly break her eardrums to get away from them.
she wasn’t sure, but she finally looked up to him with a small smirk. there were so many things she was oh so willing to do right now. other than this. but, maybe she needed to focus on the party or more so on her husband who seemed to be more than just a partner in crime in this, someone who was actually interested in enjoying his time with her. she tapped her chin, in a somewhat witty way, the smirk still on her lips. ”I would say we might need a drink.. but you have that covered…” she teased. ”Let’s see… there is dancing… or we can mingle… the option of leaving is still open..” she said the last one casually, like it was just something else on the list. ”actually… let’s take mingling off the option list..” maybe she wasn’t the best hostess, but when she looked around, she didn’t see anyone under a thirty year age gap. She would pass, she knew how talking to anyone over the age of forty was and it always ended the same way; they were young and financially stable, they needed to get started on that family, they would make beautifully little babies. Stella just wanted to tell them to butt out, or that all the fun would go away when that happened. of course she didn’t think that, she didn’t think about any of it actually. she reached out as a waiter went by and she grabbed two champagne flutes, handing one to him. ”Drinks, check… now we should walk towards the center.. avoid the elderly…” she mumbled the last bit. She kept herself glued to his side as she took a small sip of the champagne. that was one thing she wouldn’t skimp on with the event, people needed good drinks to even think about donating money to a charity. if they drank enough, their wallets would get loose. she saw a few people that she vaguely remembered meeting, but she avoided their glances, looking up at him, that smirk back again. ”So far so good..” she said playfully. this was all a part of what they did right? these things were so easily scripted, but tonight felt different. she felt like they were both relaxing a little bit. god knows they needed to, especially with each other.
