if heaven & hell decide,
that they both are satisfied, illuminate the nos on their vacancy signs. if there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then i'll follow you into the dark---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Tonight was colder than usual. There was a chilly wind that slipped its way in between the fabric of her uniform and somehow crept its way underneath her skin to chill her straight to the bone. The tiny redhead shuffled her feet anxiously as she waited outside the little flower shop. This place had become her home within the few weeks she'd been working there. She and Sawyer only moved into the city a little while ago. After she'd compromised their safety in the last town, this is where they ended up. He took up more construction work while she continued to life in her fantasy land among the flowers. It was a nice routine. Having Sawyer do his work and then come pick her up after she was finished hers. Sometimes Willow wondered what it might be like if they could live somewhere permanently. Maybe they could save up enough money to get their own apartment and adopt a cute little dog or kitten or something. That would have been nice. To be able to live normally... Though she supposed that maybe it wasn't so normal for such young people to be settling down. But it wouldn't be like that, or so she argued with herself. Sawyer was just... well, he wasn't just anything. To her, he was everything. He was the only constant thing in her life and he adapted to be whatever she needed him to be. When scary monsters frightened her from sleep, he held her until the fear released her and she drifted into something peaceful. Then whenever she needed someone to pull her out of her daydream and back into the real world, she would come down for him regardless of how much she didn't want to. Describing Sawyer with one word would just be impossible. Sticking him in one category would be like asking for the impossible. He was perfection. He was everything. Willow couldn't even begin to think of ways to put it into words how much he meant to her and how much she loved him... but maybe that was for the best. Sometimes seeing him made her feel guilty. HIs face aged so many years since they've been together. He looked a lot older than he was because of all the stress she put on his shoulders. It was almost like he was taking care of an infant. She was useless and helpless. Wandering around lost, needing him for guidance. No one should ever be held responsible for that kind of burden unless they were asking for it, and Sawyer never had. He was here not by choice.
The girl shuffled her feet more, her nerves getting the best of her. The sun was almost completely gone and Sawyer was running late. This was uncommon... because he was never late. Literally never. A bit of panic shot through her veins, making her pick her head up and look both ways down the sidewalk. No sign of him anywhere. The muscles in her throat tightened a little bit, making it difficult to swallow. Just a few more minutes... he would be here soon... Willow kept repeating this to herself over and over again but the minutes continued to pass and he was no where to be seen. "I'll just... I'll meet him halfway. Yeah. I'll do that." Willow nodded herself, as if that would make her feel better about actually doing it. Sawyer wouldn't have ever wanted her to move from her place. Her job was always to wait for him. That was it. If she moved anywhere on her own she would probably get in trouble. But... he couldn't be that far away, right? The redhead decided that it would be fine... she would be okay. So she started walking. At first her steps were small and timid. Then she found her rhythm. Then her eyes started to wander. They studied the people she passed. The buildings. The art. The nature. She fell into that daze where everything was beautiful and magical and mystifying. She wanted to look closer and touch and learn more about what she was seeing. This distraction never really did her any favors. Especially not at night. A stranger bumped into her and she stumbled sideways, falling onto her side and into a poorly lit alleyway. She coughed, trying to get back the air that had been stolen from her lungs. Being so wrapped up in herself, she failed to notice the sound of approaching footsteps. When she heard his voice, however, her heart dropped into her stomach. "Hey sweetheart. You look a little... lost." She started up at him with wide eyes, knowing that she should probably run, but she was completely frozen in her panic. |

[attr="class","WIL1"] [attr="class","WIL1BG"] [attr="class","rightpanelsWIL1"] Even if the sky is falling, I can’t just let it go, even if the sky is falling Hold me tight by your side fixing all our problems I thought it was easy to move on, I mean of course I can But then I remember that night when you took my hand Right when I thought I was so strong You looked at me----- after his early morning shift ended, sawyer made his way silently back to the hotel room to finish off sleeping. he did not even make it to the final stage of the sleep cycle due to being too much of a light sleeper accompanied with the tossing and turning, sometimes whimpering, red head that invaded his space. sawyer was never entirely sure why he always got a hotel room with two beds since one was rarely used. he was not surprised to come back to the empty hotel room but was half glad to get a small bit of peace before he would have to go pick up willow before the sunset. in his eagerness to sleep, sawyer had forgotten to put the alarm that was always preset on the clock. all he had to was slide the button over until it hit the end of the panel and instead, he undressed and crawled into his side. he found it strange at first, having the entire bed to himself but sawyer was a creature of habit and instead of spreading out, he stayed on his side of the bed and found sleep came quickly. it was the first real sleep that he had gotten in quite some time and found himself unable to pull himself out of the dreamless slumber even when his own internal clock went off. he usually got himself up before the alarm, beating it by about ten minutes but today was different. it was unsettling and his dreamless slumber soon turned into a nightmare that had sawyer’s muscles involuntary twitching and his legs kicking out to the space beside him. he usually refrained from such movements when willow was beside him and that was the indicator that he needed to quickly pop his eyes open and pull himself into reality. with a film of sweat now covering his body like a second skin, sawyer eyed the dark room with uncertainty. he could sometimes forget where he was but it was hard to forget about his company. he felt the space beside him, expecting to feel the warmed flesh of willow’s hip or some strands of her red hair tickling his hand but he felt air. his hand slamming down on the mattress in frustration of himself and quickly, sawyer got himself dressed and out the door. he did not even care if he had remembered to lock the door as he took off at a jog.
the flower shop was not that long of a walk but there were several ways of getting there. sawyer opted for the usual way that they took on their way there when he was able to accompany her. they usually grabbed some kind of snack for her to eat on her break, a fruit or a muffin and he would usually get himself a coffee or something to keep him awake. a nap was a rare option for sawyer when he was in the hotel room alone and that small blissful moment of sleep could cost him everything. he just hoped, prayed, that she stayed at the flower shop. but when he got there, the lights were off and even with profuse knocking, no one came to the door, he could have hit that too but chose against it. willow would have taken the direct route home, the same way that they took when the sun went down as it was the main street but there was that turn off to get back to the hotel that he sometimes led her through. he hated having them out after hours and right now, he feared her being alone in the city by herself. panic began to set in which did not help that sawyer was out of breath. he kept up a smooth jogging pace, looking to faces when they passed by him. no one appeared threatening, no one looked deadly or as though they had just committed a crime but the duo were also deceiving. he wanted to ask for help, ask if anyone had seen her and every time a person passed by, he opened his mouth to inquire if they had spotted a red head with blue eyes—something that could not be missed. but that would draw attention to them, her appearance was not all that subtle, she stood out quite easily and sawyer would be damned if he let that kind of attention be called to them. so, he got all the way back to the hotel and pushed the door with his shoulder, creating more force than needed, ”willow!”, calling out but getting no response from the dark room. he had to find her. she was in trouble. he had that sixth sense about him when it came to her. he got the power when he was forced into this role of her protector. sprinting out of the hotel room and back down into the streets, it was not until he passed an alleyway, one that was on the direct route from the shop to the hotel, and he heard a muffled cry. he had heard that cry before, it rang in his ears like a siren’s call, he had heard that cry when they had been put into the first deadly situation. she had pleaded with their kidnappers and he had stayed mute. it was the same situation as she called out for help and sawyer remained quiet, but it was for a different reason now. he slunk into the shadows and cringed as he waited for the right moment, having to listen to her pleas. his foot knocked into a small piece of plywood and sawyer chose that as his weapon, giving a moment to get his bearings before he bashed the guy in the shoulder with the wood. but it did not make much of an impact but it achieved the goal of making the male release willow. grabbing her hand and holding the weapon up, sawyer pushed her behind him as the assailant rose, ”run.”, he growled out his command to her but he had been distracted by her impaired safety once again and got a handful of splinters as the weapon was torn out of his grip, letting out a grunt as a result. if heaven & hell decide,
that they both are satisfied, illuminate the nos on their vacancy signs. if there's no one beside you when your soul embarks, then i'll follow you into the dark---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | There weren't very many moments where Willow truly felt afraid for her life. Honestly, she still didn't really understand death. She couldn't wrap her head around the concept. How could she or Sawyer suddenly cease to exist? Where would she go once her heart stopped beating? No, no. She couldn't die because she loved it too much here on the Earth. There were so many stones she had yet to turn over. So many things to explore and discover. Death wasn't a possibility right now and she had never known anyone who died. She had witnessed a man being shot, but had he really died from such a small little thing? Could she really die in some alleyway because some man was tearing at her skin and pulling at her clothes? Willow inquired this for a moment. No, she wouldn't die from this she decided. Maybe if she could just close her eyes and pretend she wasn't here it would all just stop and suddenly be over... or maybe Sawyer would show up and save her. He was the other reason she never had to fear death. Whenever trouble started to rouse, he was always there before anything could really happen to her. Sawyer always took the fall. He braved the physical and mental injuries so that she wouldn't have to. His mind and body were a lot stronger than hers. But... maybe this time she would have to pretend that she was big and strong like he was. If she could just make herself believe that everything would be okay and that this man would leave her with at least some strength left then maybe that's what would happen. Yeah, that's what should happen because then she could carry herself home and crawl into bed and wait for Sawyer to come home and make everything better. He was good at that. He could make it stop hurting.
The cruel stranger had pulled her up to her feet by her hair when she froze and didn't take his hand. Willow squealed in pain and struggled to get to her feet because her legs were like noodles underneath her. He had said something to her earlier, but it had gone through one ear and straight out the other. She wasn't listening. Her mind was already teetering on the edge of reality and her fantasy. Should she stay in the current moment or protect her psyche by drifting off to some better place of make believe? Her mind couldn't seem to decide so she faded in and out of both. The man's mouth was moving, but she'd suddenly gone deaf. She could only see him. Her lack of response seemed to irritate him because he hit her, said something else, then hit her again. Blood filled her mouth but she still said nothing. He decided to give up on trying to get her to speak and instead put his lips on hers, then her neck. His hands disappeared somewhere under her shirt but her mind faded out before she could really determine where they were wandering. Willow became a rag doll in his hands, only making small noises and pleas for him to stop when she returned back to reality for a handful of moments. And then suddenly he fell away from her. Someone else took hold of her arm and pulled her in a direction away from the man who'd left his mark all over her delicate skin. She stumbled carelessly in his direction, still not quite processing the details of his face. Only when she heard his voice did she some to the hazy realization of who it was that had pulled her to safety. "S-Sawyer...?" Her voice was soft and uncertain. She didn't know if this was real or just some scenario that her imagination had come up with. "I missed you..." She mumbled dreamily to him, then widened her eyes in terror as the piece of wood was ripped from his hands and used against him. A shrill scream pierced the air around them as she watched her attacker swing and hit Sawyer. "SAWYER!" Her whole body started to tremble and tears poured heavily down her face. She wanted to help but she stood back, knowing that she would only get in the way. All she could do was stand and watch in horror as the two men fought one another. |

[attr="class","WIL1"] [attr="class","WIL1BG"] [attr="class","rightpanelsWIL1"] Even if the sky is falling, I can’t just let it go, even if the sky is falling Hold me tight by your side fixing all our problems I thought it was easy to move on, I mean of course I can But then I remember that night when you took my hand Right when I thought I was so strong You looked at me----- he could sense her fear while he traced his step back from the empty hotel room for a second time. he just had to find her and quell all these dark thoughts that were in his head right at this moment. a million things could be happening to her and sawyer could not accept that fate for her. in the end, he was supposed to die and she was meant to live on. that fate was written in the stars for the pair of them so why was he currently out of breath while running down the same paths and she was probably oozing life out of her right now? sawyer had no clue how a girl so innocent and sweet could attract the worst people to her side but he had vowed to himself and to her that he would take care of her until his last breath, and that was what was he was currently doing. he could feel his lungs burning with each deep breath that he was now taking in, running out of energy as he kept the quick pace up for two whole paths before recalling the most common one that they took during the later hours. it had a lot light but it was pretty vacant of other people after a certain time when all the stores would close. he knew when she was in distress and that brief muffled cry was familiar to him, he had heard her whimper into a blanket, his shirt and into the mattress to many times not to know what she sounded like when she was scared. he gathered his own courage and attempted to race his thumping heart, fearful that it might give him away as he slunk into the shadows of the deep alleyway. watching nothing but shadows, hers and her attackers, he waited for the right moment before putting his weapon to good use. a wooden plank struck into the male, surprising him and causing him to let willow go which sawyer took as his opportunity to get her out of there. he pushed her behind him, still holding the plank of wood in an attempt to ward off the stranger from coming closer. he was not outnumbered and sawyer could see in the dim lighting that the attack was far bigger and probably stronger than he was. his energy was not filled and his lungs still burned but he nodded to willow as she questioned his existence in the situation. ”i know, now go.”, but his heroic moment was cut short as the piece of wood was pulled from his hand and sliced open pieces of skin along the way. he could see small spikes of wood imbedded under his red, burning hand and he hissed through the pain. she was still behind him, he could sense her and sawyer took one brief second to demand that she leave but it was a mistake. he suddenly felt a blinding pain in the side of his head as he crumbled to his knees. his ears were ringing and his vision was doubled, he could hear her scream echoing in his head which felt hollow as he was blindsided by the attack.
the only thing that got sawyer going again was the fact that the attacker was making another advancement toward willow. on the shakiest of legs, sawyer rushed over to stand in front of willow, pushing her backward and hoping that one of the steps would get her out of the alleyway. ”don’t touch her.”, he grounded out though his jaw was sore and his head was pounding. sawyer took a swing first, making an escape attempt as the attacker was once again taken back by the hit. he got a few hits in but the male got a few in himself. sawyer picked up another object, a metal pipe and swung it with the reserves of his energy. the attacker went down to his knees this time and instead of waiting for the recovery of the male, sawyer grabbed for willow’s hand and ran out of the alleyway in a haste. he could barely see at this moment as the world spun around him but he kept going, pulling her along behind him. they were safe, for now. she was safe, that was what mattered to him. fumbling for his key as they got back to the hotel room, he opened the door and led her inside. he gently shut the door behind them but hastily locked it before looking over to her. he could see the bruises on her skin, the blood coming off her bitten lip and the dribbles of red coming off the corner of her mouth. he could feel himself blinking a lot, just trying to keep his sight singular but sawyer dropped to the bed and took in deep breaths that caused him to wince. he knew that he might be in the worst shape out of the two of them but sawyer still made the effort to stumble into the bathroom after he finally caught his breath and come back out with a first aid kit. ”what were you thinking!?”, he finally snapped at her, wiping at his lip with the back of his hand, smearing his own blood with a sigh. he pulled out some gauze and tweezers so he could get the splinters out of his hand later. reaching for her, he grabbed her hand with his good one and gently sat her down on the bed. ”this might hurt.”, lying to her as he dapped the cuts on her lip and her cheek with a swap of alcohol. he knew that it was going to hurt, it was going to burn and sting and she would probably tear up but sawyer was going to make sure she was okay, present and long term, before he would start fixing himself.
